Edmodo gives a classroom a fun and interactive learning environment. It helps keep students engaged, because this website acts like a social media account which keeps students interested. It also allows users to access their accounts through an application on all Android and Apple devices. Giving the parents direct access to their children’s online classroom also helps support the students learning because they can make sure they are getting their work done, parents are able to see any important announcements, and are also given the chance to see how their child is doing in the class.
A challenge or pitfall for this technology would be that some students may have more access than others outside of school. If not everyone has a device, Internet, or Wi-fi available at home then they don’t have the same opportunity as the rest of their classmates either review assignments or communicate with their group when they have group assignments for homework. Along with that, students may also be using group discussion boards to talk about more than just their assignments, which could be a distraction, and in the worst case scenario allow students to bully others through online conversations. These are some of the challenges that this technology could possibly have, but if the teacher makes sure to address them before beginning to use it then there shouldn't be any challenges.

Hi Noemi,
ReplyDeleteBefore reading your post I actually saw the image you included and my first thought was that it looked like a educational version of Facebook. I see the potential this tool has, much like cougar courses serves us, Edmodo can be a place where teachers communicate with students and parents and vice versa. Teachers can post when assignments are due and maybe even have an assignment be turned in? However I also see the challenges that this app offers. Like you mentioned not all families will have the same access as other families and we need to keep that in mind. It can be one option to communicate, but unless we know that EVERYONE can use it I would say we should have other methods available for communication.
Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi Noemi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Edmodo with us! I had never heard of it before. Based on reading your blogpost and seeing the picture you posted, I already want an Edmodo account. I want to get familiar with it since I want to be a teacher. I think the educational app will be appealing to students because it has a Facebook-like appearance. It seems like a very efficient, simple, and fun website. Communication is key in helping a student reach academic success. Ultimately, if teachers and students frequently use Edmodo, both will highly benefit.
Hi Noemi,
ReplyDeleteEdmodo seems like a great application that's conveniently accessible to students and can also be used to stay connected with the teacher but also connect with other students and share their views. I think this application would be very beneficial in a classroom for students in 5th grade and up because I think it would be a perfect way for them to learn how to communicate with one another and to their teacher. I also like that parents can view what their child's work and communicate to the teacher. Thank you for sharing this application! I'm honestly considering about maybe using this in my future classroom.
Noemi,
ReplyDeleteEdmodo it's a great learning management system that has many benefits not just for the teachers, parents, but, for the students as well. We can call it a one of a kind academic social media that functions similar to Facebook, but, safer and teachers have the ability to review what the students upload before it can be posted. Since the students are able to communicate with their classmates using this means, it is a great way to encourage class discussions and give those students that don't participate in class discussion the opportunity to express themselves in the discussion boards.
